MUMBLES RFC MINIS NEWSLETTER

Firstly and most importantly, the coaches, and we've got more than the British Lions, would like to thank all you parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts and uncles for the support over the past season and for all your encouragement. It has been greatly appreciated, especially on some of the freezing cold Friday evenings and Sunday mornings we have experienced. Hopefully next Autumn and Winter will be a little milder.

GENERAL:

Presentation Evening: There will be a presentation evening on 19 May 06 at the rugby club. The evening will start at 6.30pm, with presentations commencing at around 7pm. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Recruitment: Chris Davies and Huw Evans, next season's under 8's and under 9's coaches, will be holding a recruitment training session early in the new season. If you know of any children who would be interested, Chris and Huw would love to here from you. Dates and times will be agreed upon at a later date. Also if there are any parents of children who fall into these age groups and who would like to help out with the coaching, please let Chris and Huw know of your interest.

Team colours: Our team colours are light blue and dark hooped jerseys, navy blue shorts and light blue and dark blue hooped socks. Jerseys will be supplied the respective team.

After match refreshments: For the 06/07 season food will be provided at the rugby club. We have been asked to remind all players and parents that playing kit cannot be worn in the clubhouse. We would therefore appreciate your co-operation with this.

Matches: The normal kick off time for all games whether home or away is 11 am. The coach of your child's team will let you know of any change to this and also of meeting times etc for away games. Training either on Fridays or Sundays normally lasts for 1 hour.

Registration etc: Club membership forms will be available from team coaches at the start of training next season. Membership will be £20 per child (which provides family membership to the club) plus, we will also be asking for £10 per child to cover insurance etc. As well as club membership forms we will also require a completed WRU registration card (with photo) for each child, if one has not already been registered with us.

The welfare of the children who play for Mumbles RFC is of paramount importance to both the club and us as coaches. Consequently, I am afraid that if we have not received either of the above for any child they will be unable to take part in training sessions or matches.

Under 8's:

Children qualify for this age group if they are aged 7 or under as at 1 September 06. The coach for the 06/07 season is Chris Davies (Tel 405120). Training is held on Sunday mornings (when there is no game) between 9.30am and 10.30am at Underhill Park. The first training session of the new season will be held on 3 September 2006. First fixture will be on 17 September 06, against Bynea RFC at Underhill. Teams of ten a side play a game of tag rugby over two ten minute halves.

Under 9's:

Children qualify for this age group if they are aged 8 or under as at 1 September 06. The coach for the 06/07 season is Huw Evans (Tel 366342). Training is held on Sunday mornings (when there is no game) between 9.30am and 10.30am at Underhill Park. The first training session of the new season will be held on 3 September 2006. First fixture will be on 17 September 06, against Bynea RFC at Underhill. Teams of ten a side play their game over two ten minute halves. There are no scrums or lineouts, but full tackling is introduced as well as rucks and mauls.

Under 10's:

Children qualify for this age group if they are aged 9 or under as at 1 September 06. The coaches for the 06/07 season are Simon Jones (Tel 654373), David Evans (07791 120109) and Paul Beynon (Tel 404032). Training in the new season will take place on Friday between 5.30pm and 6.30pm at Underhill Park. The first session of the new season will be held on 4 August 2006. First fixture will be on 17 September 06, against Bynea RFC at Underhill. Teams of ten a side play their game over two fifteen minute halves. Five man scrums and lineouts are introduced but these are non-competitive.

Under 11's:

Children qualify for this age group if they are aged 10 or under as at 1 September 06. The coaches for the 06/07 season are Mike Jones (Tel 528726), Richie (Tel 362197) and Mark (Tel 367447). Training in the new season will take place on Friday between 4.00pm and 5.00pm at Underhill Park. The first session of the new season will be held on 4 August 2006. First fixture will be on 3 September 06, away to Penclawdd. Teams of ten a side play their game over two fifteen minute halves. Five man scrums and lineouts are used and this season the opposition are allowed to compete for the ball at these set-pieces. However there is still no pushing at the scrum.
